About Us

Woodseaves Miniature Railway is a 7 1/4 inch narrow gauge railway located in Woodseaves, near Market Drayton in Shropshire. The railway itself runs in a non-formal figure-eight around the Woodseaves Garden Plants nursery. Feel free to take a look at the photo gallery for a hint of the layout.

History

The intial loop began construction in 2002, which surrounded the nursery car park, went through the nursery and runs partially along the inner perimeter. A Roanoke Petrol locomotive made its debut run around this loop in 2003. In Summer 2008 the line extension was completed. This includes an optional route for the journey, bypassing the station, running around the lower nursery, crossing the custom built pond and bridge before climbing back up to join the original loop.

Rolling stock includes Cherry, a four-seater open top carriage plus two roofed four-seater carriages (former Brookside Miniature Railway rolling stock). Current maximum capacity: 12 plus the driver.

The line briefly began as a 5 inch narrow gauge private railway with only a short stretch of track and a black 0-4-0 Sweet Pea locomotive. The line lasted no more than a year with an upgrade to 7 1/4 inch planned for a private and public line. The first public run came shortly after the first loop was finished in 2004.

Admission to the nursery and station is free with free car parking. To find out how to get to the railway and nursery, click here.

Fares: Adults and children £1 per person. Children under 5 admission free but must be accompanied by an elder. Tickets are available at the station upon request.
